Switching from plastic to paper. Packaging materials have been changed to address the issue of marine pollution.

It is known widely that waste plastic is having a major impact on the global environment, including marine pollution. This prompted NSK to begin switching from plastic to recyclable paper in stages, starting from 2021, for packaging around 80 % of the company’s core products, including air turbines, contra-angle handpieces, and Handpiece for dental cleaners.

This has realized an approximate 30 % reduction in the size of packaging, as well as an approximate 50 % reduction in weight. Furthermore, around 55.5 tonnes of plastic packaging was being used annually, but switching to paper has reduced the use of plastic materials by around 49 %.
